In an enlightening demonstration video, Matt Burns, the Director of Technical Marketing, presents a live showcase of Samtec’s innovative front-panel cable system, functioning seamlessly at 112 Gbps PAM4 alongside advanced silicon from Synopsys.
We start our exploration with the signal journey. The Synopsys 112G Ethernet PHY is the origin point, emitting two channels of 31-bit, PRBS data at a staggering 112 Gbps PAM4.
The signals initiate their journey at the PHY and proceed to the high-efficiency Samtec Bulls Eye® connector, the BE70A—a test system known for its excellent performance.
At the heart of this setup, the Novaray I/O system interfaces with the panel front, utilizing Samtec's advanced 112 Gbps PAM4 capacity.
After leaving the Bulls Eye connector, signals navigate a 12-inch stretch of low-loss microwave cable and reach the Samtec 1.85 compression mount jacks placed on a Samtec NovaRay® Evaluation Board. Here, we encounter the mid-board NovaRay cable system which channels signals to a NovaRay I/O front panel assembly.
The signals then retrace their path, heading back to the Synopsys 112G PHY for comprehensive analysis. It's worth mentioning that the NovaRay I/O cable extends up to two meters and the cumulative signal path in the entire demo surpasses 2.6 meters.
The performance metrics speak for themselves. In this 112 Gbps PAM4 system, the bit error ratio (BER) impressively stands at e-10 with distinctly wide-open eye patterns and impeccably clean bathtubs.
The NovaRay I/O cements itself as an exceptional 112 G panel mount cable system featuring front panel brackets and comprehensive external EMI shielding, available in 16 and 32 differential pair configurations. It employs a 34 AWG Eye Speed low loss twinax for its internal cable, while offering the option of 28 or 34 AWG for its external cable.
